An Ultra High Definition 4K Real Time Driving Tour of Colorado City, Texas.

Colorado City, Texas is located on I-20 midway between Sweetwater, Texas and Big Spring, Texas. It has a population of about 4,000 people. It is located in Mitchell County, Texas and is the county seat of Mitchell County.

Colorado City, Texas got its name because the town grew up along the banks of the Colorado River. It was formerly known as the โ€œMother City of West Texas.โ€

At one time Colorado City was a wealthy and prosperous town, bragging that it had the most millionaires out of any city in Texas. The town also laid claim to having the most saloons.

Unfortunately the changes of time have not been kind to Colorado City. The discovery of oil in the area protected the town from the worst impacts of the Great Depression, but the prosperity would not prove to be permanent.

The shell of the long-closed Baker Hotel still towers over the town. Closed in 1970, the hotel was once the height of opulence. Theodore Baker, the hotelier also behind the now closed Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas, created the Baker Hotel in Colorado City. It was first opened to the public in 1927 and showcased all of the splendor of the roaring 20โ€™s.

Adjacent to the Baker Hotel is the Palace theater, which has been renovated.
