Galveston Island State Park

Galveston Island State Park is split into two parts. One part has the sandy beach that faces the Gulf of Mexico, and the other side faces the bay. The two parts are across the street from each other.

If you are looking for a great way to spend the day in Galveston, the park gives you access to a part of the beach that is less crowded and has great amenities. There are picnic tables and outdoor showers along the beach.

Reservations

Galveston Island State Park is only about an hour from Houston, Texas. Many people go to the park when it is good weather. It is especially popular for day use to visit the beach.

You should make reservations in advance for both day use and camping. Both types of reservations can fill up. If the park is at capacity and you do not have a reservation you can be turned away.

Day use reservations have two entry times, usually one for 8:00 in the morning and the other for 3:00 in the afternoon. Both entrance times let you stay until the park closes.

Unless you know for sure you don’t want to come until late in the day, it is better to get the 8:00 start time if it is available because that gives you all day in the park. People with the early start time are not required to leave before the afternoon start time.
