Lake Arrowhead State Park

Lake Arrowhead State Park is known for Lake Arrowhead, which is a man made lake made from damming the Little Wichita River.

Cost

The entry fee for Lake Arrowhead State Park is $4 per person over the age of 13. There is free admission for people ages 12 and under. 

There are additional fees for overnight stays which vary depending on the type of lodging or campsite.

To save money when visiting Lake Arrowhead State Park, I recommend looking at a Texas State Parks Pass. The pass costs $70 a year. The benefit of the pass is that it allows the pass holder, and any passengers in their vehicle to enter the park without paying the day use fee. 

Reservations

Reservations can be made in advance online. Reservations can be made for campsites or for day use. Reservations should be made as soon as you know your plans. 

This is a popular park that often reaches capacity, even for day use. If you do not have a reservation you may be turned away at the gate. The park is busiest during spring and summer months.

Staying at Lake Arrowhead State Park

Campsites

Walk-in primitive campsites are $10 per night. They are located a short walk from the parking area. There is water and restrooms in the vicinity. 

Campsites with water are $12 per night. They have a picnic table and water in the area. There are restrooms in the vicinity. 

Campsites with electricity are $22 per night. The campsites have a picnic table, and a fire ring. There are hookups for water and electric. Bathrooms with showers are in the vicinity. 

Equestrian campsites with electricity are $22 per night. The sites have a picnic table, fire ring, water, and electric hookup. The campsite is designed to bring a horse and has a tie rail, corral and covered stalls. It is located near the group pavilion.

Group Facilities

There is a large group pavilion that is available to rent for the day. 

Restrooms in Lake Arrowhead State Park

There are bathrooms provided throughout the park. There is a bathroom with showers in the large camping loop. 

Hiking Trails

There are three trails in the park. 

Dragonfly Trail is half a mile long and an easy hike to bring children. 

Onion Creek Trail is 4.4 miles long and an is an easy hike with level ground that is suitable for horseback riding. 

Mesquite Ridge Trail is only 0.6 miles long, but it leads to a scenic overlook. 

What is there to do at Lake Arrowhead State Park?

You can fish in Lake Arrowhead. Fishing licenses are not required for fishing from the shores of a state park. There is a fishing pier and a fish cleaning station. 

Swimming is allowed in Lake Arrowhead. There is a swimming area with a swim platform. 

Kayak on the lake. 

Try you hand at nature photography or going birding. 

Dogs at Lake Arrowhead State Park

Lake Arrowhead State Park allows dogs into the park. Dogs must be on a leash in public areas of the park including on hiking trails. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings, including cabins and bathrooms.
