San Angelo State Park is currently home to part of the Official Texas State Longhorn Herd. The park is also known for Concho pearls, which are formed by freshwater mussels that live in the river.
The park opened in 1995.

Cost
The entry fee for San Angelo State Park is $4 per person over the age of 13. There is free admission for people ages 12 and under.
There are additional fees for overnight stays which vary depending on the type of lodging or campsite.
To save money when visiting San Angelo State Park, I recommend looking at a Texas State Parks Pass. The pass costs $70 a year. The benefit of the pass is that it allows the pass holder, and any passengers in their vehicle to enter the park without paying the day use fee.
Reservations
Reservations can be made in advance online. Reservations can be made for campsites or for day use. Reservations should be made as soon as you know your plans.
This is a popular park that often reaches capacity, even for day use. If you do not have a reservation you may be turned away at the gate.
Staying at San Angelo State Park
Campsites
Primitive campsites are $10 per night. These sites are only available for tent camping. There is some availability of water in the area.
Campsites with water are $10 per night. They have a picnic table, grill, fire ring, and some have a shade shelter. There is water in the area and are bathroom in the area. Horses are allowed at Bald Eagle camping area.
Campsites with electricity are $20 per night. They have a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. There are hookups for water and electricity. Restrooms with showers are in the vicinity. Some of these sites accept horses.
Cabins
Cabins are $50 per night. They are log shelters that do not have their own kitchen or bathroom. The cabins have electricity, air conditioning, and water. There is a microwave, refrigerator, picnic table, and a grill. There are restrooms in the vicinity. Dogs are not allowed inside the cabin.
Macey’s Bunkhouse is $100 per night. It has electricity and an air conditioner. There is a kitchen sink, refrigerator, freezer and stove with an oven. You must provide your own kitchen utensils. There is a bathroom with a shower. There are six beds, but you must provide your own linens. Dogs are not allows inside.
Group Facilities
There are group campsites for $40 – $50 per night.
There are pavilions and an amphitheater.
Restrooms in San Angelo State Park
There are bathrooms provided throughout the park. Many of the restrooms in the camping loops have showers.
Hiking Trails
There are over 50 miles of trails in the park. Most of the trails are for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
Dinosaur Trail is 2.2 miles long and has fossilized tracks from a creature even older than dinosaurs.
What is there to do at San Angelo State Park?
You can fish in either the O.C. Fisher Reservoir or the Concho River. Fishing licenses are not required for fishing from the shores of a state park.
Swimming is allowed in the park.
You can kayak in either the reservoir or the river.
There is a wildlife observation area. You can also see longhorns and bison.
Dogs at San Angelo State Park
San Angelo State Park allows dogs into the park. Dogs must be on a leash in public areas of the park including on hiking trails. Owners must clean up after their dogs.
Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings, including bathrooms.
