History of Bunker Hill Village

Bunker Hill was incorporated as a municipality in 1954. It was originally settled by German immigrants and was known for having a sawmill. In the 1950s a number of suburbs began to be developed in the surrounding area. In the 1960s Houston annexed a lot of other unincorporated communities in the area. Since Bunker Hill, as well as some of the other Memorial Villages, was already incorporated it did not get incorporated into Houston. This has created a small island of suburbs within Houston.

What are the Memorial Villages?

The Memorial Villages are a collection of four suburbs on the western side of Houston that did not get incorporated into the City of Houston as the city expanded and annexed unincorporated areas nearby. There are four municipalities that make up the Memorial Villages. They include Hunters Creek, Piney Point, Bunker Hill and Hedwig Village. Collectively the villages have a population of approximately 50,000 people. All  four villages are predominately suburban residential areas with mostly single family houses.
