Austin, Texas to Georgetown, Texas

An Ultra High Definition 4K Driving Tour from Austin, Texas to Georgetown, Texas.

Join me on an ultra high definition 4K driving tour from Austin, Texas to Georgetown, Texas! It’s late afternoon and we will be going along I-35 northbound from downtown Austin to Georgetown. This route will take us past Pflugerville, Texas and then pass through Round Rock, Texas as well. Also I got hungry on the way and stopped to get some What-a-burger (or as it’s pronounced in Texas….. Waterburger).

From Austin to Georgetown is 28 miles, but during rush hour the traffic can really build up. Recent reports have listed 1-35 in Austin as having even more traffic than the dreaded 610 at 59 interchange in Houston.

Austin is the capitol of Texas and has a population of just under 1 million people. Austin is known for being the home of the University of Texas at Austin, one of the largest Universities in the United States. Keep Austin weird is a common slogan for the city, in reference to the live music scene and creative energy. Unfortunately in recent years gentrification has replaced many of the local small businesses that made Austin unique with national chains.

Austin, Texas is the county seat of Travis County, Texas which means that the county court house is located in Austin. Since it is also the capitol of Texas the state capitol building is located in Austin as well as the governor’s mansion.

I-35 runs north/south across the entire United States, but does not cross either border. The southernmost point of the highway in the United States is in Laredo, Texas and the northern terminus is in Duluth, Minnesota. Portions of I-35 in Austin have two levels making it a double decker freeway north of downtown near the University of Texas campus.

Georgetown, Texas is also a college town, but much smaller than Austin. Georgetown has a population of about 71,000 people and is home to Southwestern University. Southwestern University is a small private liberal arts college with a very pretty campus and is the oldest university in Texas.

Georgetown is the county seat of Williamson County, Texas which means it is where the county courthouse is located. Georgetown has a historic town square with the courthouse in the middle and older buildings surrounding it. In the historic town square there are lots of small restaurants, shops, and nice places to get a glass of wine. Unlike many towns in Texas, Georgetown is growing rapidly. Georgetown is a great place to live with close access to lots of outdoor recreation, a historic town center and small town feel while maintaining a relatively short commute into Austin.

Pflugerville, Texas is a suburb on the north side of Austin. We will drive past the western edge of Pflugerville, but not much is visible from the highway. Pflugerville has a population of about 45,000 people. Like many towns in this part of Texas it got its name from the German immigrants who settled the area.

After Pflugerville we will pass through Round Rock, Texas. Round Rock is a northern suburb of Austin. Round Rock has a population of about 100,000 people. Round Rock is probably most well known for being the headquarters of Dell Technologies, the company that makes Dell computers.
