History of Stafford, Texas

Stafford, Texas got its start when William Stafford built a plantation in the area in 1830. In 1836 General Santa Anna ordered the plantation burned down as part of the Texas Revolution, but by 1840 William Stafford rebuilt it.

People began to live around the plantation in a town called Stafford’s Point. The rail road came through and eventually the post office as well. Overtime the area was also called Staffordville, and then just Stafford.

Stafford officially incorporated as a city in 1956.
