Collin Street Bakery ships their famous cakes to 196 countries! They are known for their ability to deliver mail order cakes, and have delivered cakes to celebrities all over the world. You can order a fruitcake or Texas pecan cake on their website. Founded in 1896 by German immigrant Gus Weidman. It was sold to the McNutt family in 1946 and has remained in their family ever since.
The location on I-45 is easily accessible to the freeway for travelers to stop at. It is a favorite stop of tour groups and busses that pass through. They serve other food besides just cakes, and you can stop and get a sandwich. They also have a Tesla super charging station.
There is a movie in production called Fruitcake about a famous criminal case arising out of this bakery. Bookkeeper Sandy Jenkins was caught embezzling $16 million dollars from the company between 2004 and the discovery of his crime in 2013. Sandy Jenkins died in a federal prison hospital in Fort Worth in 2019.
