Bonham State Park

Bonham State Park was established in 1936. The park was built by the CCC. As part of the work they did building the park, they built a dam which created a 65 acre lake in the park.

The park is centrally located just outside the town of Bonham, Texas. It is north east of Dallas, near Oklahoma. 

Cost:

The entry fee for Bonham State Park is $4 per person over the age of 13. There is not entry fee for children 12 and under. 

There are additional fees for camping depending on the level of the campsite. 

For $70 a year you can get a state parks pass, which provides for free entry into the park for the pass holder and any guests that arrive in the same vehicle.

Reservations can be made in advance for both day use or camping.

Staying at Bonham State Park

Campsites range in cost between $17 – $26 per night. The cost depends on the level of amenities at the campsite, which range from tent sites with electricity to full RV hookups. 

Sites have water, a grill, a fire ring, a picnic table and a lantern holder, in addition to the electric hook up. 

All campsites have access to a bathroom with showers. 

What is there to do at Bonham State Park?

Hiking Trails

There are four trails at the park, ranging in difficulty from easy to more challenging. The shortest trails are 1.3 miles, and the longest trail is 2.7 miles. The trails are mixed use for both hiking and biking.  

Swimming

There is a designated swimming area along the shore of the lake. 

Boating

Paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes can be rented at the park to use in the lake. You can also bring your own. 

Fishing

Fishing is allowed in the lake. There is even a fishing pier. 

Picnic

There are picnic tables available near the lake, as well as a playground for children.

Visit Bonham, Texas

The town of Bonham, Texas is the county seat of Fannin County, and has the courthouse square. The town is near the park, and there are lots of local places to eat, and things to do in town.

Fannin County Museum of History has displays about the history of Fannin County. Adult admission is $4. 

Sam Rayburn Museum has exhibitions about Sam Rayburn, the longest-serving House Speaker in American history. 

Fannin County Barn Quilt Trail is the largest barn quilt trail in Texas. Blocks are mounted on the side of barns and painted with replicas of traditional quilt patterns.
