Dinosaur Valley State Park

Dinosaur Valley State Park is known for having dinosaur footprints. It opened in 1972.

Cost

The entry fee for Dinosaur Valley State Park is $8 per person over the age of 13. There is free admission for people ages 12 and under. 

There are additional fees for overnight stays which vary depending on the type of campsite.

Reservations

Reservations can be made in advance online. Reservations can be made for campsites or for day use. Reservations should be made as soon as you know your plans. 

This is a very popular park that often reaches capacity, even for day use. If you do not have a reservation you may be turned away at the gate. 

Staying at Dinosaur Valley State Park

Campsites

Hike-in primitive campsites are $15 per night. They require a hike of over a mile. The hike crosses a river that must be waded. The sites are spread out and do not have access to water, restrooms or picnic tables. Fires are prohibited. Dogs are allowed, on leash.

Walk-in primitive campsites are $18 per night. These are accessed by a walk of about a half a mile. The sites do not have restrooms or water. Drinking water is a half a mile away.

Campsites with electricity are $25 per night. Campsites have picnic tables, fire rings and hookups for water and electricity. 

Group Facilities

There are two large group campsites and a pavilion. 

Restrooms in Dinosaur Valley State Park

There are bathrooms near the picnic area. There are restrooms with showers available in the camping loop with electric campistes.

Hiking Trails

There are twelve trails in the park covering 20 miles.  Several of the trails are short and easy trails appropriate for younger children. 

Limestone Ledge Trail is a moderately difficult hiking only trail. This trail provides access to seeing the main dinosaur track site. It is the first place that sauropod tracks were discovered in the world. 

Paluxy River Trail is an easy two-mile trail that has many dinosaur tracks along the edge of the river.

Dogs at Dinosaur Valley State Park

Dinosaur Valley State Park allows dogs into the park. Dogs must be on a leash in public areas of the park including on hiking trails. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings, including cabins and bathrooms. 

What to do near Dinosaur Valley State Park

Glen Rose, Texas

Is a small town near the park. It has many hotels and restaurants as well as activities. Visit Dinosaur World or the Somervell County Museum. Go swimming at Big Rocks Park.
