Kickapoo Cavern State Park

Kickapoo Cavern State Park is known for the caves throughout the park. There are 20 caves, including Kickapoo Cavern. 

Kickapoo Cavern State Park opened in 2010. Tommy Seargeant sold the land to create the park in 1986, and over the years the park was opened on a more limited basis.

Cost

The entry fee for Kickapoo Cavern State Park is $3 per person over the age of 13. There is free admission for people ages 12 and under. 

There are additional fees for overnight stays which vary depending on the type of lodging or campsite.

To save money when visiting Kickapoo Cavern State Park, I recommend looking at a Texas State Parks Pass. The pass costs $70 a year. The benefit of the pass is that it allows the pass holder, and any passengers in their vehicle to enter the park without paying the day use fee. 

Reservations

Reservations can be made in advance online. Reservations can be made for campsites or for day use. Reservations should be made as soon as you know your plans. 

This is a popular park that often reaches capacity, even for day use. If you do not have a reservation you may be turned away at the gate. 

Staying at Kickapoo Cavern State Park

Campsites

Campsites with water are $12 per night. They have a picnic table, lantern post, fire ring or grill and shared water. There are bathrooms with showers in the vicinity. These campsites are limited to six people per site. There is no trash. 

Full hookup campsites are $20 per night. The campsites have a picnic table, lantern post, and a fire ring or a grill. There are hookups for water, sewer, and electric. Restrooms with showers are available in the vicinity. 

Group Facilities

The group campsite is $60 per night. It has five campsites and takes up to 30 people.

There is a restroom with shower available in the camping area. 

Hiking Trails

There are several hiking trails in this park. Trails are both for hiking and biking.

The Long Way Home Trail is 6.7 miles long and the longest trail in the park. 

Arroyo Camino is 1.5 miles, and despite being shorter is a more strenuous hike due to elevation gains. 

What is there to do at Kickapoo Cavern State Park?

Go hiking or mountain biking on the trails. 

Tour the caves. There are at least 20 caves in the park. The two main caves are Kickapoo Cavern and Stuart Bat Cave. You are NOT allowed to enter the caves without permission. Cave tours are Saturdays at 1:00 PM. Reserve your spot in advance. 

Look at the bats. The caves  From March to October thousands of bats live in the caves, and you can watch their flights. 

Take nature photographs or go birding. The endangered Black-capped Vireo lives in this park. 

Dogs at Kickapoo Cavern State Park

Kickapoo Cavern State Park allows dogs into the park. Dogs must be on a leash in public areas of the park including on hiking trails. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings.
