Lake Brownwood State Park

Lake Brownwood State Park was built by the CCC. The park was built on the shores of Lake Brownwood.

Cost

The entry fee for Lake Brownwood State Park is $5 per person over the age of 13. There is free admission for people ages 12 and under. 

There are additional fees for overnight stays which vary depending on the type of lodging or campsite.

To save money when visiting Lake Brownwood State Park, I recommend looking at a Texas State Parks Pass. The pass costs $70 a year. The benefit of the pass is that it allows the pass holder, and any passengers in their vehicle to enter the park without paying the day use fee. 

Reservations

Reservations can be made in advance online. Reservations can be made for campsites or for day use. Reservations should be made as soon as you know your plans. 

This is a popular park that often reaches capacity, even for day use. If you do not have a reservation you may be turned away at the gate. 

Staying at Lake Brownwood State Park

Campsites

Campsites with water are $12 per night. These campsites do not allow RVs. The campsites have a picnic table, a fire ring, and a lantern post. There is water in the area, and bathrooms with showers are in the vicinity. 

Tent campsites with electricity are $15 per night. These campsites do not allow RVs. The campsites have a picnic table, a fire ring with a grill and water and electric. There are bathrooms with showers in the vicinity.

RV campsites with electricity are $15 – $20 per night. These campsites have a picnic table, a lantern post, and a fire ring with a grill. There is water and electric as well. There are bathrooms with showers in the vicinity. 

Full hookup campsites are $25 per night. These campsites have a picnic table and fire ring with a grill. There are hookups for water, sewage, and electric. There are bathrooms with showers in the vicinity. 

Cabins

Cabins have a minimum reservation of two nights. 

Two person cabins are $80 per night. They have electricity, air-conditioning, and water. The cabins have a bathroom with a toilet and a shower. There is a coffee pot, stove with oven, and a refrigerator. There is an outdoor grill and a picnic table. Inside there is a table and chairs and a double bed. There are no pets allowed in the cabin. Some of the cabins require climbing a flight of outdoor stone stairs. 

Four person cabins are $90 per night. The cabins electricity, air-conditioning, and water. The cabins have a bathroom with a toilet and a shower. There is a coffee pot, stove with oven, and a refrigerator. There is an outdoor grill and a picnic table. Inside there is a table and chairs and two double beds. There are no pets allowed in the cabin.

Oak Lodge is $100 per night and sleeps four people. It has electricity, air-conditioning, and water. There is a bathroom with a sink, a toilet, and a shower. There is a kitchen sink, a microwave, a refrigerator and a stove with an oven. There is a table with chairs, and two double beds. Pets are not allowed.

Loma Vista Lodge is $165 per night and sleeps eight people. It has electricity, air-conditioning, and water. The lodge has a living area with a couch and a fireplace. There is an outdoor grill, fire ring, and a picnic table. The kitchen has a microwave, refrigerator, and stove with an oven. The bathroom has a toilet and a shower. There are four double beds in two bedrooms, and a table with chairs. Pets are not allowed.

Group Facilities

Fisherman’s Lodge is $190 per night and sleeps ten people. The lodge has five bedrooms that each has a double bed. There is water, electricity, and air-conditioning. There is a picnic table, an outdoor grill and a fire ring. There are two bathrooms including a toilet and a shower. There is a microwave and a stove with an oven. Pets are not allowed.

Beach Lodge is $320 per night and sleeps 24 people. There are two dormitory style bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers. There is electricity, air-conditioning, water, and a ceiling fan. There is an outdoor grill. There is a kitchen sink, microwave, refrigerator, and two stoves with ovens. There is a living room and a dining room. 

There are two group halls that can be rented for days use. They have kitchens and different levels of amenities. 

Restrooms in Lake Brownwood State Park

There are bathrooms provided throughout the park. There are many bathrooms with showers on the camping loops. There is also a bathroom by the boat ramps. 

Hiking Trails

There are six miles of hiking trails in the park. A few of the trails are very short. 

Nopales Ridge Trail is 2.8 miles long and has lots of prickly pears. It is the longest trail in the park and the only one that allows mountain biking.

Texas Oak Trail is 1.4 miles long and has red oak trees, post oak trees, and live oak trees. 

What is there to do at Lake Brownwood State Park?

You can fish in Lake Brownwood. Fishing licenses are not required for fishing from the shores of a state park.

Swimming is allowed in Lake Brownwood. 

You can use your kayak in the lake. 

Dogs at Lake Brownwood State Park

Lake Brownwood State Park allows dogs into the park. Dogs must be on a leash in public areas of the park including on hiking trails. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings, including cabins and bathrooms. 

What to do near Lake Brownwood State Park

Brownwood, Texas

Brownwood, Texas is 22 miles from the park. It is the county seat of Brown County, Texas and has a population of 18,800 people. Visit the Brown County Museum of History or the Brownwood Art Center. Get a treat at Baked Artisan Goods or check out Doc’s Drugstore which has an old fashioned pharmacy and drugstore with a soda fountain.

Commanche, Texas

Commanche, Texas is 37 miles from the park. It is the county seat of Comanche County and has a population of 4,200. Visit the Comanche County Historical Museum or the Brennan Vineyards. Harvest Restaurant is very nice, and if staying the night I’ve had good luck with the Best Western Comanche Inn.
