Lyndon B. Johnson State Park

Lyndon B. Johnson State Park opened in 1970. The park is in honor of the former president. It is located across the Pedernales River from the the LBJ Ranch. 

This is a state park that is only open for day use. There is no camping at the park. The park grounds have a lot of information on the history of this part of Texas and about former U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Cost

The park is free to use. 

There are some facilities that require an additional fee, and some have optional donations. 

A walkaway between some of the buildings at the visitor center at LBJ state park. There are also lots of shade trees.

Reservations

There are some facilities in the park that can be reserved in advance. Use of the baseball feed requires advanced reservations. 

Staying at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park

There is no overnight camping in the park. The nearby town of Johnson City has hotel rooms.

You can camp at one of the nearby state parks such as Blanco State, Pedernales Falls, or Enchanted Rock. 

Restrooms in Lyndon B. Johnson State Park

There are restrooms located throughout the park facilities.

What is there to do at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park?

Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm has people in period clothing showing what life was like on the farm during World War I. The farm also has historic cabins built by German immigrants in 1860 and 1870.

There is an olympic sized swimming pool. 

There are two tennis courts and baseball field.

There are some trails that go around the property. You can see the herd of Texas Longhorn and the herd of bison which was originally from the JA Ranch. 

Tour the LBJ Ranch, which is across the river. It is national historic park and shows where he was born and grew up. 

Dogs at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park

Lyndon B Johnson State Park allows dogs into the park. Dogs must be on a leash in public areas of the park including on hiking trails. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings including the visitor center and bathrooms. Most of the attractions at this park are not areas where dogs are allowed.

Johnson City, Texas

Johnson City, Texas is 14 miles from the park. Johnson City is the county seat of Blanco County, Texas and has a population of 1,600 people. Visit the Science Mill, which is a children’s science museum, or the George L. Carter Railroad Museum. 

Fredericksburg, Texas

Fredericksburg, Texas is 17 miles from the park. Fredericksburg has a population of 11,000 people. You can visit the National Museum of the Pacific War or visit one of the local vineyards.
