Caddo Mounds State Historic Site

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site preserves an important Caddo cultural site and has a recreation of a Caddo house. The Caddo people lived in this part of Texas and were known for their distinctive grass and cane houses. The site dates back to at least 800 B.C.

Location

Caddo Mounds is located on State Highway 21 in between Alto, Texas and Crockett, Texas.

It is on the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail. The route connected areas of Texas and Louisiana with Mexico City when the area was colonized by Spain.

Visiting

Admission is $5 for adults. It includes access to the visitor center and a tour of the grounds which have mounds and a house.

The site is open Tuesday – Sundays.
