Clarendon, Texas is the county seat of Donley County, Texas. The population of Clarendon, Texas is about 2000 people. It is located in the Texas Pandhandle, 57 miles east of Amarillo. Clarendon was established in 1878 and was one of the first towns in the Texas Panhandle.

Unlike all the other Texas towns that developed after getting the railroad, Clarendon didn’t get a railroad. So after the railroad came through the townspeople moved Clarendon to where the railroad was. 

Clarendon had the nickname Saint’s Roost because it was a dry community amongst the other towns in the Texas Panhandle that were known for heavy drinking.
